The Research Score rates each product on its own merits. Our picks also weigh price and who the product is for, so a pick can rank above a higher-scoring product. How we score

AI logo generators can turn a business name and a few keywords into dozens of logo ideas in a minute. The hard part comes after: getting files you can actually use on a sign, a shirt and a website, knowing what you’re allowed to do with the design, and understanding that “you own it” doesn’t always mean you can stop others from using something similar.

For most small businesses, Looka is the best place to start. Designing is free, the $72 Premium package includes SVG, EPS and PDF files, and its Brand Kit subscription adds business cards, social templates and brand guidelines. Brandmark gets you vector files for less, $35 one-time. Canva is the best free option, as long as you understand that logos built from its templates can’t be registered as trademarks. Designers who want true, editable vector output should look at Recraft, and Ideogram is the best tool for logo ideas built around lettering.

Why you should trust us

We looked at 11 AI logo generators and design tools for this guide. For each, we read the official pricing page, the file formats it delivers, its terms on ownership and commercial use, and its privacy policy. Because rights are the part of a logo that’s hardest to fix later, we also read the US Copyright Office’s guidance on AI-generated works and Canva’s and Looka’s own statements on trademarks. Every pick is scored with our published Research Score. We didn’t design logos ourselves for this guide, so we don’t judge the look of each tool’s output; we focus on what you get, what it costs and what you’re allowed to do with it.

Who this is for

This guide is for founders, freelancers, small shops and side projects that need a logo now and don’t have a design budget. If your business depends on a distinctive brand, or you plan to register a trademark, an AI tool is a good way to explore ideas, but budget for a designer to refine the final version. For the rest of your marketing, see our guide to the best AI tools for small business.

How we picked

  • Vector export. A logo needs to scale from a favicon to a storefront sign. We looked for SVG (or EPS and PDF) files, not just PNGs.
  • Rights. Whether you own the result, can use it commercially, and whether the company says anything about exclusivity and trademarks.
  • Price model. One-time download fees versus subscriptions, and what each tier actually includes.
  • Brand kit extras. Brand guidelines, business cards, social templates and color palettes.
  • Privacy. Whether your designs and prompts train the company’s AI, and whether you can opt out or delete them.

Candidates we considered: Looka, Brandmark, Canva, Recraft, Ideogram, Wix Logo Maker (Wixel), Adobe Express, Shopify Logo Maker (and its older Hatchful app), Designs.ai, and ChatGPT and Gemini as general-purpose image tools.

Top pick · The best AI logo generator for most small businesses

Looka

7.1/10

Free to design, a one-time $72 package with all the vector formats you need, and an optional brand kit that turns your logo into ready-made business assets.

Looka lets you enter your company name, generate logo options and edit them for free; you pay only to download. There are two ways to buy. The Premium Logo Package costs $72 once and includes PNG, EPS, SVG and PDF files, several color variations with transparent backgrounds, unlimited changes after purchase, full ownership and lifetime technical support. That covers everything a printer, sign maker or web developer is likely to ask for.

The Brand Kit subscription costs $96 a year, billed annually, and adds what you need around the logo: social profile images and posts, business cards, email signatures, letterheads, invoices, brand guidelines and more than 300 ready-to-use branded assets. Looka says you keep full ownership of your logo even after the subscription ends. For $129 a year, Brand Kit Web adds an AI-generated website.

Looka is also unusually direct about rights. Its pricing FAQ says you have full copyright of your logo as a whole, but not of the individual elements such as symbols, and that if you want a legally binding trademark you should contact the trademark office in your country.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

Don’t buy the $35 Basic package by mistake: it’s a single low-resolution PNG, which won’t hold up on print or large displays. And because Looka’s symbols aren’t exclusive to you, another business could end up with a logo built around the same icon. If you plan to register a trademark, have a designer or attorney look at it first.

Looka’s privacy policy says you can ask for your data to be deleted at any time through in-app chat or by email, and that Looka doesn’t sell personal information. It doesn’t say whether your designs are used to improve its AI.

Who it’s for

Small-business owners and side projects that want a finished logo plus business cards, social graphics and brand guidelines in one place.

Who should skip it

You only need logo files at the lowest price, or you need a logo you can fully trademark without changes.

Pros

  • Free to create and preview logos; you pay only when you're happy
  • $72 Premium package includes PNG, EPS, SVG and PDF files
  • Brand Kit subscription adds business cards, social templates, brand guidelines and 300+ branded assets
  • You keep full ownership of the logo even if you cancel the subscription

Cons

  • The $35 Basic package is a single low-resolution PNG
  • You own the logo as a whole, but not the individual symbols in it
  • Its privacy policy doesn't say whether your designs train AI

Runner-up · The cheapest way to get vector files

Brandmark

6.5/10

Unlimited free logo generation with AI-made icons, and SVG, PNG and PDF files from a $35 one-time package.

Brandmark lets you generate unlimited logos for free and says it creates unique icons with generative AI, combined with hand-crafted fonts and templates. Designs can be exported to SVG, PNG and PDF. The $35 Basic package includes logo files in PNG and vector format, which makes it the cheapest route to a scalable logo among our picks.

The $95 Designer package adds source files, unlimited design revisions, brand guidelines, business card, social media and presentation designs, and one-page websites. The $195 Enterprise package adds up to 10 hand-crafted concepts and font downloads. Brandmark’s pricing page says full copyright is included, for use in commercial and personal projects.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

Brandmark’s privacy policy is short and generic. It mentions IP addresses for logged-in users and third-party advertising cookies, including Google remarketing, but says nothing about how long data is kept, how to delete it or whether your designs train its AI. It has no visible update date.

Its terms say purchases are subject to a separate return policy, which we couldn’t find linked from the pages we checked. Ask support@brandmark.io about refunds before you buy if that matters to you.

Who it’s for

Founders who just need a clean logo in vector format at the lowest one-time price.

Who should skip it

You care about a detailed privacy policy or want a published refund policy before paying.

Pros

  • $35 Basic package includes PNG and vector files
  • Generates icons with generative AI rather than only picking from a library
  • Brandmark says full copyright is included, for commercial and personal use
  • $95 Designer package adds brand guidelines, source files and unlimited revisions

Cons

  • Thin privacy policy that mentions ad tracking but not retention or deletion
  • Refund terms point to a separate return policy we couldn't find
  • Fewer brand assets than Looka's Brand Kit

Budget pick · The best free AI logo generator

Canva

7.9/10

A free AI logo generator inside the design tool many people already use, with the clearest guidance we found on what you can and can’t trademark.

Canva’s free AI logo generator turns a written prompt into logo designs, with styles such as 3D Render, Illustration and Sketch (Color). You can regenerate until you like the result, fine-tune colors with Color edit, and use Magic Resize to fit the logo to different formats. Because it’s Canva, the logo then drops straight into business cards, flyers and social posts, and Canva says its AI tools work on desktop, mobile and tablet.

Canva is also the most explicit company we found about trademarks. Its help center says logo templates can be used by anyone, so your rights are non-exclusive and you can’t register a template-based logo as a trademark. The same goes for logos that use stock photos or graphics from Canva’s library. If you want something you can register, Canva says to design from scratch using only simple lines, shapes and fonts, or to upload a logo you designed or commissioned. For images you generate with Canva’s AI tools, Canva’s help center says that, between you and Canva and to the extent the law permits, you own them.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

The AI logo generator page lists JPG, PNG, PDF and PPTX as export formats; it doesn’t mention SVG. For a logo that needs to scale cleanly, plan on a paid plan or another tool for vector files. Canva also says it doesn’t currently sell exclusive rights to its graphics.

Canva’s privacy policy says it may analyze your content and uploads to train its AI models, and that you can manage this in your privacy settings. Turn it off if you’d rather your brand work stay out of training data.

Who it’s for

Anyone starting out on a zero budget who wants a logo plus social posts and flyers made in the same app.

Who should skip it

You want a logo you can register as a trademark, or you need vector files on a free account.

Pros

  • Free AI logo generator from a text prompt, with several styles
  • Edit colors, resize and drop the logo into other designs in the same app
  • Works on desktop, mobile and tablet
  • Clear help article on trademarking Canva logos

Cons

  • Logos made from templates or stock graphics can't be registered as trademarks
  • The AI logo page lists JPG, PNG, PDF and PPTX exports, not SVG
  • Canva may use your content to train AI unless you change your privacy settings

Recraft

7.6/10

An AI image tool that generates editable SVG vectors directly, which is what designers and print shops actually want.

Most AI logo tools produce pixels and convert them to vectors after the fact. Recraft’s logo generator says it can create editable SVGs directly from text prompts or raster images, and you can export logos as PNG, JPG, SVG or Lottie animations. That matters for a logo: a true vector file scales from a business card to a billboard and can be edited cleanly by a designer later. You can also build a reusable custom style from your own reference images to keep a set of brand graphics consistent.

Recraft says free users can generate and export as many logos as they like. The rights, though, depend on your plan. According to its pricing page, images made on the Free plan are owned by Recraft, appear in its public community gallery and aren’t licensed for commercial use. On paid plans you get full ownership and commercial rights, your images stay private, and they remain yours and private after you cancel.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

For a logo, a free-plan design is a non-starter: you don’t own it and it’s public. Budget for at least one month of a paid plan while you finalize your logo. Recraft’s pricing page didn’t display any prices to us, so check it in your region.

Recraft’s privacy policy, updated October 20, 2026, says it may use your content to train its own AI models unless you opt out in your account profile settings; content from team workspaces and the API isn’t used. Images that were in the public gallery may stay there after you delete your account.

Who it’s for

Designers and design-minded founders who want AI-generated logo concepts as real, editable vectors.

Who should skip it

You want ownership of your designs without a subscription, or a guided logo-and-brand-kit flow.

Pros

  • Generates editable SVGs from text prompts or raster images
  • Exports PNG, JPG, SVG and Lottie
  • Custom styles from your own reference images for a consistent look
  • Paid-plan images stay yours and private even after you cancel

Cons

  • On the free plan, Recraft owns your images and shows them publicly
  • Trains its own models on your content unless you opt out
  • Pricing page didn't show us prices

Also great · Best for wordmarks and lettering ideas

Ideogram

5.8/10

Good at rendering text inside images, which makes it useful for exploring wordmark and lettering concepts.

Our AI image generator guide picks Ideogram for accurate text in images, and lettering is where logo concepts from general image tools often go wrong. That makes it a good sketchpad for wordmarks, monograms and badge-style concepts. Ideogram’s pricing FAQ says it doesn’t claim ownership of your generated images and that you can use them for any purpose, including commercially.

You can pay as you go at 1 cent per credit, or subscribe: Plus costs $20 a month ($180 a year) for 2,400 priority credits a month, and Pro costs $60 a month ($504 a year) for 7,500. With the Ideogram 4.5 model, one image costs 3 to 10 credits depending on the rendering setting.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

Ideogram makes images, not logo files. Its pricing page lists no vector export, so a final logo needs to be redrawn or traced as a vector before you use it in print. All images are published to the community by default; only Plus and Pro subscribers can generate unpublished images.

Ideogram’s privacy policy, last revised January 15, 2025, says user input such as prompts and uploaded images is used to train the models behind its services, and it doesn’t describe a way to opt out.

Who it’s for

Founders and designers exploring typographic logo concepts that a designer will later redraw as a vector.

Who should skip it

You need a finished vector logo file or want your designs private without paying.

Pros

  • Our AI image generator guide picks it for text in images
  • Ideogram says it doesn't claim ownership and allows commercial use
  • Pay-as-you-go credits at 1 cent each, or subscriptions from $15/month billed annually

Cons

  • Raster images only; no vector export listed
  • Images are public by default unless you're on Plus or Pro
  • Privacy policy says user input trains its models, with no opt-out described

Other good options

For a free logo with SVG files: Wix Logo Maker. Wix’s logo maker page, now branded as part of Wixel, says you can create a business logo at no cost on Wixel’s free plan and download it as SVG, transparent PNG or JPG. AI generations and AI-powered edits use credits, while manual edits to layout, colors and fonts are free. Note the fine print: Wix says its icons and fonts are licensed for commercial use but shared with other users, so your logo’s uniqueness comes from how you combine them.

For Adobe users: Adobe Express. Adobe says its logo maker is free for everyone, with AI tools powered by Adobe Firefly in some regions. The logo page lists PNG, JPG and PDF downloads and doesn’t mention SVG.

The competition

  • Shopify Logo Maker: Shopify calls it completely free and says the logo is yours to own, but the page doesn’t list file formats or describe AI features. The page doesn’t mention Hatchful, Shopify’s earlier logo app.
  • Designs.ai: Its pricing page didn’t show plans, prices or logo export formats when we checked, so we couldn’t evaluate it.
  • ChatGPT and Gemini: General image generators can sketch logo ideas, but they produce raster images, not vector logo files. See our guide to the best AI image generator if you want to explore concepts that way.

Three things get mixed up here: the rights a tool’s terms give you, copyright, and trademark.

The terms decide what you’re allowed to do with the design. All five of our picks allow commercial use, though Recraft only on paid plans.

Copyright in the US requires human authorship. In Part 2 of its report on AI, published January 29, 2025, the US Copyright Office concluded that AI outputs can be protected “only where a human author has determined sufficient expressive elements,” and that the mere provision of prompts isn’t enough. Creative human modifications or arrangements of AI output can be protected. In practice, a logo you generate and download unchanged may have little copyright protection, so a competitor could copy it more easily.

Trademark is about whether your mark identifies your business, and that’s a separate process with its own rules. Tool terms can still get in the way: Canva says template-based logos and logos built from its stock graphics can’t be registered, and Looka says you don’t own the individual symbols in your logo. If the logo matters to your business, have a designer redraw it as an original and ask a trademark attorney before filing. This guide isn’t legal advice.

What to look forward to

Native vector generation, which Recraft offers today, is the feature we expect other tools to add. We’ll also watch for changes to how companies describe ownership of AI output as the Copyright Office’s guidance and court cases develop.

FAQ

Can I trademark a logo made with an AI logo generator?

Sometimes, but not always. Canva says logos made from its templates or stock graphics can’t be registered as trademarks, and Looka says you don’t own the individual symbols in your logo. A trademark protects how a mark identifies your business, which is a separate question from copyright. Ask a trademark attorney before you file.

Can an AI-generated logo be copyrighted?

In the US, only partly. The US Copyright Office concluded in January 2025 that AI output is protected only where a human author has determined sufficient expressive elements, and that prompts alone aren’t enough. Human edits and arrangements can be protected.

What is the best free AI logo generator?

Canva’s AI logo generator is free and sits inside a full design tool. Wix’s logo maker (now part of Wixel), Adobe Express and Shopify’s logo maker are also free. Recraft lets you export logos for free, but it owns free-plan images, so you’d need a paid plan to use one commercially.

Which AI logo generator gives you SVG files?

Looka includes SVG in its $72 Premium package and Brand Kit, Brandmark exports SVG, Wix’s logo maker lists SVG downloads, and Recraft generates editable SVGs natively. Canva’s AI logo page and Adobe Express’s logo page list raster and PDF formats instead.

Do I need a subscription to make a logo?

No. Looka ($72) and Brandmark ($35) sell one-time packages with vector files, and Canva, Wix, Adobe Express and Shopify have free logo makers. Subscriptions make sense if you also want a brand kit or ongoing design tools.
